The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka, in its first strategic development document (Development Strategy of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka 2011-2015), recognized the importance of its own institutional responsible civic role and partnership with the local community as part of its mission to impart knowledge in building a fairer, better and a more humane society, thus establishing itself as an active and responsible participant in social transformation.
In this strategic document, cooperation with the community was recognised as one of the seven key strategic areas for the development of the institution, and it remained in the new strategic directions – Development Strategy of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka 2016-2020. Since the first strategic document has been developed.
The key people that plan to be involved in this project are affiliated to the Department of Pedagogy and have long standing experience in using service-learning pedagogy within their own courses taught at the HEI. They have developed many different collaborations with various actors in the local community that have been engaged either as guest lectures and/or mentors to students within many different service-learning projects.
