Marko Paunović, consultant, moderator, and social entrepreneur with experience in the field of non-formal education, fundraising, organizational and project management. In recent years he has been lobbying the European institutions and following closely Cohesive, Enlargement, Social Entrepreneurship, Internet and youth policies of the EU. He is the founder and CEO of Out of the Box International, an international network based in Brussels dealing with social innovations.

Matej Bel University

Matej Bel University has been implementing service-learning since 2005/2006. MBU is a leader in the field in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2016, MBU took an active part in spreading the strategy in Central and Eastern Europe and the main researcher was invited, as an expert, to take part in the conception of support for the region. Moreover, in 2016, MBU entered the international programme directed by Clayss supporting the development of service-learning at universities. More than 30 teachers of the university were trained for implementation of the strategy. At the same time, a platform for an exchange of information and experience in the field was created.

MBU understands service-learning as a key path to fulfil its strategic third mission. Except for the implementation of service-learning, there is an intention on the research of outcomes and impact of service-learning. This process involves mainly the Faculty of Education, which has expertise in educational research. There is a Centre for Educational Research at the Faculty of Education operating. The mission of the Centre for Educational Research is to develop basic, applied and action-oriented research into school reality in its wider societal and cultural contexts. At the same time, it initiates and participates in organizing the creation and development of favorable conditions for the improvement of educational research at PF MBU.

Researchers and teachers at MBU have rich experiences with the evaluation reports, international projects and evaluation research in cooperation with schools on the lower level of education.

The University College of Teacher Education in Vienna

The University College of Teacher Education in Vienna is internationally very well linked to the advantage of our students, graduates and teaching staff. We pride ourselves on an established network of about 90 partner universities and colleges across Europe. The University has three major areas of responsibility: the education of compulsory and vocational teachers, the education and training of teachers and the professional-related research. (Teacher training programs for “Bachelor of Education” and Master Studies.

At the PHW over 400 lecturers provide high quality teaching to roughly 3.000 students annually. These Students are being prepared scientifically and practically to the teaching profession. One special feature at Austrian Universities of Teacher Education is that they house so-called “Praxissschulen” on their university campus. These schools (primary and secondary schools) can be referred to as “test schools” which enable students as well as university staff a very close and good cooperation and direct communication and exchange of experiences.

The University College of Teacher Education Vienna puts great effort into making the teaching profession its focal point. Education, Training and Continuing Professional Development, in conjunction with Research ensure that the demands of the teaching profession and other related educational professional fields are met in a sustained manner. These efforts require education to be based on educational science, teaching methodology, subject didactics and teaching practice.

The exceptionally high strength of the University College of Teacher Education Vienna lies in the confluence of research-based educational competencies in all educational fields and across all age groups, which are strongly embedded in professional practice.

University of Limerick

The University of Limerick has a well-established reputation for seeking new ways of learning and developing innovative models for teaching and learning, as it recognizes the inherent value of linking local community knowledge with academic knowledge to enable positive social change. Civic and civil engagement lie at the heart of the university’s mission and drives UL’s commitment to education, research and knowledge exchange as catalysts for the transformation of the City and the region.

The UL International Practicum, from which the LIO Practica originated, was recognized internationally by the Association of International Education Administrators (AIED), selection of UL to host a Thematic Forum on ‘Community Engaged Learning’ in May 2018. The Limerick Inside Out (LIO) Practica (group) is an experiential learning module(s) that forms a vital part of the University of Limerick’s (UL) many community engagement initiatives and co-operation with Limerick City and County Council (LCCC).

The module is practice-led and co-created in and with a range of communities. Students co-create on accredited modules with our community partners on ‘real world’ projects, designed to address local needs, thereby actively participating in sustainable social change.

University of Rijeka

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka, in its first strategic development document (Development Strategy of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka 2011-2015), recognized the importance of its own institutional responsible civic role and partnership with the local community as part of its mission to impart knowledge in building a fairer, better and a more humane society, thus establishing itself as an active and responsible participant in social transformation.

In this strategic document, cooperation with the community was recognised as one of the seven key strategic areas for the development of the institution, and it remained in the new strategic directions – Development Strategy of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Rijeka 2016-2020. Since the first strategic document has been developed.

The key people that plan to be involved in this project are affiliated to the Department of Pedagogy and have long standing experience in using service-learning pedagogy within their own courses taught at the HEI. They have developed many different collaborations with various actors in the local community that have been engaged either as guest lectures and/or mentors to students within many different service-learning projects.

Out of The Box International

Out of the Box International is European Network present in 25 European countries bringing together different organisations advocating for a more innovative, citizen-centred and solidarity policy on European and city level. Our main mission is to provide policy and advocacy expertise, ICT tools and network for dissemination of research, training and innovative practices.

Out of the Box International currently has its focus in 4 policy areas: Social Cohesion, Open and Digital Europe, Social Entrepreneurship and European Project. Within social cohesion policies and projects, the particular focus is on social inclusion of vulnerable groups, their active engagement in via innovative participatory models and empowerment for active community life.

University of Granada

The UGR (1531) is a public comprehensive research university with approx. 56,000 students, 3,600 academics, 1,900 administrative and support staff. Its 27 Faculties and Schools and 124 Departments offer 62 undergraduate degrees, 106 master’s degrees and 28 doctoral programmes organized in 3 overarching doctoral schools. It has 15 research institutes and over 400 research teams working in all disciplinary fields.

The UGR is currently ranked 3rd in Spain according to the Shanghai ranking (2019) and is the leading regional university in the south of Spain, with 34 disciplines appearing in the top 500. As a public higher education institution, it is committed not only to quality and excellence in education, learning and research but also to activities targeting the transfer of scientific, technical, and artistic knowledge to society, the betterment of society and a sustainable environment.

The University of Granada has, for over ten years, implemented a service-learning model based around Role Models. It involves university students going into schools and acting as role models, peer mentors and peer tutors with other young people. Several recent publications from the research department correspond to these areas of Service-Learning, Mentoring, Tutoring and Peer-learning. Five years ago the university also organized the national Spanish conference on Service-Learning and for the last three years been a member of the board of the Spanish Association of Service -Learning.

The European Volunteer Centre (CEV)

The European Volunteer Centre (CEV) is the European network of over 60 organisations dedicated to the promotion of, and support to, volunteers and volunteering in Europe at European, national or regional level. Through our network we work together to promote and support volunteering through advocacy, knowledge sharing and capacity building & training. In this way we reach out to the many thousands of volunteers and volunteer organisations in Europe as a source of support bringing the European dimension to their work.

CEV channels the collective priorities and concerns of its member organisations to the institutions of the European Union and the Council of Europe. Together with other stakeholders we exchange policy, practice and information in order to ensure effective and coherent follow up to European Year of Volunteering 2011 and ensure its legacy through the implementation of the Policy Agenda for Volunteering in Europe (PAVE) and the follow-up “Helping Hands – Hope for Europe” report. CEV’s vision is a Europe in which volunteering is central in building a cohesive and inclusive society based on solidarity and active citizenship.

Our mission is to contribute to the creation of an enabling political, social and economic environment in Europe where the full potential of volunteering can be realised, especially its potential for achieving social inclusion for all and its value for the development of civic and social competencies. In order to achieve the mission, CEV regularly and successfully participates in EU funded projects together with other partners across Europe, often with a cross sectoral approach.
